This page is a place for me to give kudos to people, projects, products and services that I like.
People
- Richard Anderson - Home Page
- Richard is a long time friend! He'd especially like people to visit his HOWTO page.
Projects
- Debian GNU/Linux
- Debian is my favorite flavor of Linux for servers. It is extremely stable, and usually "on the ball" when it comes to security updates. The excellent apt package management system takes care of dependencies, making new software installs very simple. Unfortunately, I don't recommend it for desktop use.
- Ubuntu GNU/Linux
- Ubuntu is my favorite desktop Linux distribution. It's easy to install, comes with a reasonable set of packages, and requires very little tweaking to make a good desktop.
Products
- Squeezebox 2
- With hardware MP3 and FLAC decoding, this is a great way to listen to your entire CD collection on your home stereo system with no loss in quality.
- TiVo
- I don't even know how you people can stand watching TV with commercials! If you have cable, you need TiVo. Period.
Services
- AlienCamel
- AlienCamel (anagram for Clean Email) is an email service that filters spam, and viruses. It has a slick web interface that lets you control what makes it into your inbox, and what doesn't. They also gave current users like me unlimited storage, which isn't bad for a little over $30/year.
- Passwird
- Lots of good deals here, with a nice homegrown feel to the site. Be careful - you might find yourself ordering lots of crap you don't need if you check this site often.
Stores
- woot!
- The original: One product per day, almost always a good price. woot!
Organizations
- Kirkland Mafia
- Charity through youthful living. A social club and childrens charity rolled into one. Everyone needs a little mafia in their life.
